It's been barely half a week gone by since our last update from homebrew developers nervegas, dshadow and the rest of their team regarding their NES.app emulator for Apple's iPhone. For those nostalgic about the good old days of 8-bit generation games, you can now relive them with this homebrew emulator.

Notable changes to NES.app v0.58 that have been added since the last version center mainly on the saving processes of the application. Also, an "Enlarge Screen" option for portrait mode has been added as well as other minor tweaks and bug fixes. Here's a more detailed description according to the changelog since v0.49:

0.49 [nervegas] Fixed minor memory leaks
[nervegas] Fixed remaining save/restore state issues (I think)
[nervegas] Moved all critical globals into a nes_state struct
0.50 [nervegas] Fixed a bug causing certain games' save state to corrupt
0.51 [nervegas] Added "Enlarge Screen" option for portrait mode
[nervegas] Aesthetic changes to preferences
0.52 [nervegas] Resync frameskip from preferences when loading saved game
[nervegas] Redraw controllers when debug toggled
[nervegas] Minor tweaks to portrait controller hot spots
0.53 [nervegas] Fixed orientation of notify icons when flipping
[nervegas] Added enlarged screen view option for landscape mode
0.54 [nervegas] Implemented game genie code support (but slows down game)
[nervegas] Fix for preferences scroll speed (cell scope problem)
0.55 [nervegas] Minor speedups for game genie
[nervegas] Fixed bugs related to preferences being reset
(Occured if the preference had not been drawn when exited)
0.56 [nervegas] Replaced "All Games / Saved Games" button with disclosure
[nervegas] Sped up preferences scrolling by precaching values
0.57 [nervegas] Refresh "Saved Games" browser when new game is saved
0.58 [nervegas] Implemented "true" multitouch using gesture API, fixed issues
[nervegas] Removed diagonal direction hotspots, made controls harder

The readme file on their website also details the specifics on the "Enlarge Screen" option available in portrait mode. Here's a short explaination taken directly from the readme:

FULL SCREEN MODE

Using the enlarged screen option, you can zoom in on your favorite game as
close to "full screen" as the NES aspect ratio will allow.

NOTE: Using the enlarged screen mode slows down the display a bit, so it is recommended that you bump your FrameSkip by one more if using it.
