File Description
The homebrew Okiwi for the Nintendo DS being developed by Pedro J. Estebanez has finally been released. It is currently in its first Alpha stage so it's expected that some of the functions haven't been implemented yet. However, Mr. Estebanez has done a spot on job with this free web browser.
Important! Read this before you do anything: The program uses DLDI. The released files are patched for SuperCard Lite. You can find an appropriate patch for your card in the read link.
The file can be unzipped (or in Mr. Estebanez words "Unpacked") directly into the root of the Flashcard. If you decide to decompress it to your system, please be advised that the Okiwi directory must be directly under the root directory.
Inside the file you decompressed (the folder isnamed Okiwi, duh!) you will find a folder named fonts which includes three true type fonts (serif, sanserif, and monotype). In addition, included also are the fonts with prerendered sizes. (We assume this is to keep memory usage low) The extension name for these files are .okf which stand for Okiwi Font. The rest of the files contain tables which are needed to associate character bitmaps with their respective Unicode codes. The extension name fore these files is .okm which stands for Okiwi Map.
It is important to note that if either of the files are deleted, the software should generate them again (from the TrueType fonts).
So far the only way to navigate within documents being viewed is by using the stylus. There are only 2 working buttons for this release. The first button which allows the user to enter an URL and the last button which allows to set the zoom level.
Please remember that this an Alpha release and it may be unstable. If you don't want to risk it, you can wait for some of the early adopters to try it and post their comments on how it runs.
