I was recently diagnosed with diabetes and so I decided I needed to start looking after myself. Diabetes gear is expensive and I already had a DS. Enter the Health Monitoring Tool Kit, my first ever coding project.
The goal at first was to have it be used only by myself, but I was encouraged by various people (mainly my husband) to release it to the public and this competition seemed like as good a time as any.

What it does:
It takes detailed food details and makes computations, some of them in a style I'm familiar with (the company behind this style aggressively goes after any project using its trademarks, so I can describe it but I won't say a trademark, the company's name is somewhat like Wait Wotchars.), namely that it takes calories, fat, and fiber and runs some calculations on the three to give a 'unit' value. Using the system, people are allowed to eat a certain amount of units worth of food a day.
It takes detailed blood sugar information for the four blood testing times I as well as many other diabetics have to use: Pre-Breakfast, Pre-Lunch, Pre-Dinner, Pre-Bed.
It takes detailed information about your current weight and compares it to your last weight, telling you your weight loss or gain since your last entry.
Finally, it saves all of this to separate human-readable text files in the program's folder.

Some notes:
This program uses all custom art done by myself. It has custom backgrounds, a custom keyboard (including regular, shifted, and numberpad style keyboards), a custom font, as well as a custom menu system that can be used by both the DS's buttons and the stylus.

Future plans:
I plan on doing averages, perhaps with charts, for both blood sugar and weight gain/loss so you can see how your health has been over the past week, two weeks, month, three months, six months, and the past year.
I also plan on having the entire thing, backgrounds, font, menu, and keyboard, be skinnable.

Installing:
Simply extract the .zip file and put the HMTK folder into the root of your flash cart. If HMTK.nds is not ran from /HMTK/HMTK.nds then any functions requiring saving or reading from journal entries will not work, though the program should not freeze or crash because of it.

Using it:
The controls are simple. A double tap of a menu entry with the stylus will select the menu entry. The directional pad and the A button can also be used to navigate the menu.
Upon first running it, it will create a file, 'settings.ini', where settings are kept in a human readable format. You can alter settings manually or use the Options menu inside the program. Also, it will create various text files as appropriate when you use the different features of the program.
