File Description
It's another emulated feather in homebrew developer uberjack's hat. After ColEm and fMSX, uberjack now gives us a Free Unix Spectrum Emulator - otherwise simply known as Fuse - a Sinclaim Spectrum Emulator. Here are some of the known issues. Check out the documentation included in the download for more information.
Known Issues
Tape loading speed
Tape loading is excruciatingly slow, though this is more an issue with the emulated system, rather than the emulator. Fuse automatically turns off speed limiting (meaning, it runs as fast as it can) when tape loading is in effect, but on the PSP this doesn’t help a whole lot – approx. 50% boost at 222 MHz. Compare this to the Windows version, which speeds up to about 1500% to finish loading a game like Auf Wiedersehen Monty within seconds.
Hangs during tape loading
The system randomly hangs when loading from tape – the longer the load time, the higher the possibility that it will hang. Hang may also occur when loading a state file that was saved while tape loading was in progress.
I’m not sure what’s causing the hangs, but to compensate for this, as well as the slow tape load speeds, Fuse PSP will load Z80 files, which are “save state” files from the Game menu.
Joystick support
Fuse PSP has joystick support, but my lack of familiarity with the system makes it difficult to test actual functionality. At this point, I’m not sure if joystick support in Fuse PSP works (I don’t think it does), but if you can help track this issue down, please contact me.
