File Description
Since my first alt I've wanted an addon that clears up who-is-who. Incognito by stonedonkey was the first addon that started that process, but it was limited to the main's name in guild chat.
Identity goes much further. It provides:
1. Main name in Guild & Officer chat 2. Main name activated separately in whispers 3. Main Name in one channel. Channel range must be 5 or higher. 4. Nicknames in Party & Raids
So if your name is Ferusnox, you can tell everyone to call you 'Nox'
5. It saves the name per realm and per character, so you can have different nicknames and different mains for different realms or factions.
---
If your main character is a 60 Warrior named Tank and you are working on a new toon (level 10 Priest) called Healer, and both are in the same guild this addon would do the following:
Guild: [Healer]: (Tank): How is everyone doing today? Officer: [Healer]: (Tank): How is everyone doing today?
If you turned the tell feature on and then whispered someone it would place (Main: Tank): after your Healer info.
If your name is WarNinja, but you like to be called Nin and you set your Nickname to 'Nin' then in paty or raid you'd see:
Party: [Warninja]: (Nin): Raid: [Warninja]: (Nin):
And that's what this does. My guild finds it useful because we have many high level guildies playing multiple alts. This keeps things from getting too confusing.
I like it because I go by 'Nox' and this prevents me from having to repeat my nickname over and over again in parties and raids.
But it could be used for other purposes as well. Lets say your guild uses real names on TS or Vent. New folks might have a hard time connecting real names with character names. You could set either Main or Nick to your real name, so it showed up in your guild's chats and in a guild party/raid.
You could also set a Raid's Tank & Off-Tank's Nick to MT and MT2 to flag people that these are the leaders they should be listening to.
With the /IDChan command you can set one channel where the (Main Name) will show up. This can be used for a Guild Channel that is separate from the main Guild Channel. It also can be used if you have an Alliance Channel for mixed guild use.
Feedback is appreciated.
