WildTangent Studios has launched a simple to use level editor that allows users to build their own BlasterBall 3 levels from within the game itself. These builds can then be on the BlasterBall 3 website and shared with the gaming community. This makes it the first ever Web 2.0 video game.

Web 2.0 refers to a supposed second generation and improved form of Internet-based services featuring online collaboration and sharing among users. Although Web 2.0 remains poorly defined and often criticized, it has caught on as a favorite buzzword among certain technical and marketing communities.

"We got the idea when we found ourselves constantly producing new levels for BlasterBall 2. No matter how many levels we created, players were always hungry for more," said WildTangent. "Finally, players can have all the BlasterBall content they want and even personalize it with their own designs."

BlasterBall 3 fans are expected to generate thousands of new levels to be created immediately. Aside from in-game level authoring the game also allows players to select music from their MP3 collection to play in the background. The game then animates elements t the beat of a player’s personalized soundtrack.

BlasterBall3 game is free to download and will be available on the WildTangent Game Console, which is shipping with every major consumer PC in North America this holiday season. But the all-new Level Editor which lets players design their own levels costs US .99.

The game franchise has over 15 million total online players to date.
